Parody by NatalieM (2021)

Hey You

For my parody project in Digital Media, I wanted to write lyrics for a song that I enjoyed, but was not my favorite. I wanted a song that was not my favorite, because I did not want to become tired of listening to it all the time. I settled on writing lyrics for “Hey Jude” by the Beatles and I changed the title to “Hey You”. “Hey Jude” did not have a large vocal range, which makes singing it a lot easier. When coming up with the lyrics, I wanted to write something about my takeaways from the first semester of Junior year. The lyrics are more of a message to myself and other high school students who are struggling with school. Every once in a while, I believe everyone needs a message that speaks directly to someone’s mental health struggles. I hope these lyrics can be that message of comfort.

Aside from coming up with my message and lyrics, I had a great time learning how to use Pro-Tools for this project. During class time, I learned how to add new plugins and sounds through some new mixing techniques. I enjoyed the learning process, despite struggling every once in a while. I have also practiced singing so my vocal recording can be as clean as possible, so I can avoid having to delete sections in the editing process. Overall, Digital Media at Freestyle has opened my eyes to so many new programs I didn't even know existed. I am excited to perform this parody, and see what new projects Freestyle has installed for me.
